This exhibition arises from the homonymous project in which the Museum of History of Barcelona (MUHBA) has worked in recent years. The study is part of one of the lines of research and dissemination of the Museum and focuses on the diet and health of citizens, paying special attention to the basic needs for people’s lives throughout history. The exhibition is inaugurated within the framework of the Sustainable Food Citizen Week and acquires a special relevance, since Barcelona has become the World Capital of Sustainable Food in 2021. The exhibition reviews the historical evolution of the forms and institutions of government that have influenced the supply of the city and have intervened in the health care of citizens. It has more than 300 pieces and originals from 27 providers that show under what conditions and parameters these institutions have worked, in addition to making us reflect on the effects of the food policies they have carried out.
