The European Union has designated 287 million € for the creation of new European universities, with the goal of creating a European area of quality higher education that will be more attractive and accessible. To accomplish this, a range of higher education institutions have established up to 41 alliances, each of which will constitute a European university. The Universitat de Barcelona (UB) is the only Catalan university to head up one of these alliances, CHARM-EU, which will present a new Master’s programme next September. It will be in Global Challenges for Sustainability. CHARM-EU is an alliance between the UB, which is the project leader, Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, the University of Montpellier and Eötvös Loránd University, in Budapest. In total, they have more than 170,000 students and over 20,000 staff members, including more than 12,000 research professionals.
